Abstract: Ethno-medical survey ofPeechi-Village ofThrissur, district was carried out to gather information on the ethno-medically important plants used by the famous traditional practitioners as well known ottamoolis. Ottamoolis are important traditional practice because it prevents the recurrents of the disease. There are lot of myths associated with this medical application, among them the most important one is if, the medical preparation is disclose to anyone it will not effective, so the practitioners are not disclosing the method to anyone except to one of their child. But, the younger generation is ignorant about this so India's one of the traditional medical practice is diminishing now a days, so the present work was undertaken as an attempt to unravel the field ofottamooli chikilsa. The present paper provides preliminary evaluation of 27 ethno-medicinal plants belong to 18 families.</description>

Abstract: Phytochemicals are non-nutritive plant chemicals that have protective or disease preventing properties for the plant. The screening of phytochemical constituents in rhizome and flowers of Hedychium flavescens were performed using generally accepted laboratory technique for qualitative determinations. The phytochemical screening showed that rhizomes were rich carbohydrate, starch, sugar, protein, cardiac glycoside, phenols, saponins, alkaloids, tannin, phlobatannin and terpenoids. Carbohydrate, ketose protein, phenols, saponins and terpenoids were present in flowers.</description>

Abstract: Methanolic extract of Phyllanthus amarus Shum &amp; Thonn (Euphorbiaceae) 50, 200, and 1000 mg/kg body weight significantly inhibited gastric lesions, induced by intragastric administration of absolute ethanol (8 ml/kg).Mortality, increased stomach weight, ulcer index, and intraluminal bleeding were reduced significantly by Phyllanthus amarus. Biochemical analysis indicated that reduced glutathione (GSH) of gastric mucosa produced by ethanol administration was significantly elevated by treatment with Phyllanthus amarus extract. Aqueous and methanol extracts of Phyllanthus amarus produced an inhibition of rat paw edema up to 42% compared to control in 3 h and continued up to 8 h. Anti-oxidant activity of the extract as well as presence of tannins in the extract may be responsible for these observed activities. © 2003 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.</description>
